OTJIWARONGO: The Otjiwarongo Town Council has announced a general eight percent (8%) salary increase on all its staff members as from 01 August this year.
Its public relations officer (PRO) Hilaria Ndadi in an interview with Nampa on Friday said all staff members of the council here are happy with the decision to increase the salaries.
She said the news hit workers ears on Wednesday after acting Chief Executive Officer of Otjiwarongo (CEO) Burbert Liebenberg had finished signing agreements with the representatives of the Namibian Public Workers’ Union (NAPWU).
NAPWU has represented the Otjiwarongo workers in the negotiation process a few months ago to raise their salaries.
“The good news hit our ears on Wednesday and this will boost morale of municipality workers in serving their customers,” said Ndadi.
Ndadi further stated that the Otjiwarongo municipality on the same day signed another agreement with NAPWU that it will start to contribute 80 per cent of its employees’ medical aid.
She said the Otjiwarongo workers as from next month they will start to give only a 20 per cent towards their medical aid contribution.
Otjiwarongo municipality has over 250 workers, and it does not receive financial support from government, said Ndadi.
