Operation Fiela was conducted nationwide. SAPS Kimberley, Galeshewe, Hartswater and Upington Clusters participated in crime combating operations in their respective station areas.
SAPS members and other relevant government departments as well as Provincial and Municipal law enforcement agencies formed part of the integrated operation within the Province.
The operations focused on illicit drugs, contraband/illegal goods and products, second hand dealers, hijacked and condemned buildings, unlicensed businesses, illegal firearms and ammunition and other related offences. There was a high police visibility in the Kimberley CBD.
In addition, the Kimberley Cluster also did compliance visits to businesses in terms of labour related issues. The following successes were achieved during the operation:
undocumented persons (18 arrested)
robbery (2 suspects)
theft out of motor vehicle (2 suspects)
possession of suspected stolen property (1 arrest)
possession of 52 counterfeit DVD/CD’s (1 arrest)
assault GBH (1 arrest)
riotous behaviour (1 arrest)
fine issued for disregarding a red robot and no driver’s licence
6 suspects (drinking in public, assault GBH, assault common and riotous behaviour)
The ‘clean up’ operation was well accepted by the community and the businesses.
