KAKI: A one year-old girl drowned in the Okavango river at Kaki village situated some 200km east of Rundu on Friday.
The body of the deceased has not yet been recovered and police search continues.
Kavango regional Crime Co-ordinator Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton told this reporter on Monday that the deceased apparently went to the river with the mother to do their laundries.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, the child was allegedly playing on the side while the mother was washing clothes and the mother only realized later that her child was nowhere to be seen and when they followed the footprints, it led into the river.
The incident was only reported to the Divundu police checkpoint on Monday morning and no particulars of the deceased were provided yet to the police.
In an unrelated incident, an Angolan national who fell from a motorbike he was driving, died while being rushed to the clinic on Saturday.
The police crime co-ordinator said the Angolan national allegedly hit the pavement at Katwitwi border post, fell off and broke his neck. Katwitwi border post is situated some 160km west of Rundu.
He was then rushed to the clinic at Katwitiwi where he died later.
The deceased was identified as 48 year-old Fransisko Kahuma, an Angolan national.
