ONGWEDIVA: Several supporting staff workers of the Ohangwena Region’s Engela, Eenhana and Okongo hospitals staged a peaceful demonstration at the three hospitals on Thursday, demanding outstanding overtime payments.
The disgruntled workers include institutional workers, clerical assistants, cleaners, labourers, porters, work hands, mortuary assistants, laundry equipment assistants and cooks.
Those who demonstrated at the Eenhana Hospital handed over their petition to the regional office of the Ministry of Health and Social Services there.
Demonstrators claim that the Health Ministry owes them overtime payments as from April to September this year for working night shifts and on Sundays and public holidays.
They threatened that all workers in the said job categories will stop working night shifts on Sundays and public holidays as from the 30th of this month, should they not get satisfactory answers by Monday next week.
Demonstrators requested the regional health office situated at Eenhana to look into the issue as a matter of urgency, if they are to continue rendering their necessary services to the community.
They stressed that they are tired of working overtime without payment. Engela, Eenhana and Okongo are three Government district hospitals.
