WINDHOEK: Founding President Sam Nujoma on Saturday called on the youth to refrain from indulging in alcohol and drugs, which negatively influence their reasoning and impair they judgment.
Speaking at the official opening of the Swapo-Party Youth League (SPYL) Central Committee meeting underway in the capital, Nujoma told the youth that they are the future leaders of Namibia and must refrain from alcohol abuse.
“Alcohol and drug abuse will result in unintended consequences instead of leading productive lives,” he told the packed Swapo headquarters’ boardroom.
Nujoma also encouraged the youth to engage in genuine business ventures and promote the industrialisation of the national economy through value-addition and manufacturing, as well as to spearhead development programmes and contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
He also called on them to be more creative and look for innovative ways of finding resources, and not to wait for outsiders to determine their financial viability and status.
“Work harder and continue to inculcate patriotic sentiments in our pioneers, and mobilise our masses to concentrate on the economic development of our country,” he told the gathering.
He then urged the Swapo youth to constantly strive to explain the aims and objectives, policies and political programmes of the Swapo Party to all Namibian people, and promote the spirit of unity of purpose and action based on the motto of “One Namibia, One Nation”.
The SPYL Central Committee meeting ends on Sunday.
