NWPL Speaker on the issue of the motion of no confidence
The Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon Sussana Dantjie, has today announced that in the Special Rules Committee of the Legislature held on the 14th March 2018 and attended by all parties, it was resolved that the motion of no confidence to the Premier Of North West Province, Honourable Mahumapelo, tabled by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will be debated on the 17 April 2018 at 9h00.
The first motion tabled by the EFF received by the Speaker on the 08 March 2018 was based on Section 130 of the Constitution which relates to impeachment instead of motion of no Confidence. The Speaker reported that she could not consider this motion as it was not clear whether it was a motion of no confidence or motion to commence the impeachment processes on the Premier.
The Speaker then requested the EFF to clarify their position in this regard hence their tabling of the proper motion of no confidence to the Premier in terms of Section 141 of the Constitution. It is only after the EFF had tabled a proper motion of no confidence was the Speaker able to table the matter for debate.
