Pretoria: North West MEC for Social Development, Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Collen Maine, will on Tuesday take service delivery to the eldest grandmother in Matlosana Municipality.

Department spokesperson Vuyisile Ngesi said Maine’s visit to the eldest person in Jourbeton and arguably Matlosana, 119-year-old Johanna Mazibuko, is part of his ‘Operation Dignity’ aimed at raising awareness on the rights of senior citizens people.

According to Ngesi, the operation will also include community work by various stakeholders and trained youth, who will volunteer their skills to improve Mazibuko’s living conditions.

“As part of the activities earmarked to honour and celebrate the life of Mazibuko, MEC Maine, together with the stakeholders, will paint, clean the house, put in tiles, erect a fence and further re-arrange electric wiring in the house,” said Ngesi.

A hundred people, aged 70 years and above, have been invited to have lunch with Mazibuko at Brazil Stadium at noon.

Maine will also convene a meeting with faith based organisations, including the departmental management and staff members in Dr Kenneth Kaunda District as part of his 100 days programme in office.

His visits to district offices will be undertaken to Ngaka Modiri Molema, Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati and Bojanala before the end of August this year.
