_: DIVUNDU No arrest has yet been made into the murder of a Chinese national who was shot at Divundu settlement situated 200km east of Rundu exactly a month ago. This is despite the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Kavango Region having offered a reward of N.dollars 20 000 for information that could lead to the arrest of suspects in the murder.
The Chinese national, who worked on the construction of the multi-million-dollar Divundu Vision School some 200 kilometres east of Rundu, was shot dead at the construction site last month on 23 June at around 18h00.
NamPol’s Crime Investigations Co-ordinator for the Kavango Region, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton told Nampa on Monday that no suspects have been arrested yet. The Deputy Commissioner stated that the reward of N.dollars 20 000 for information that would lead to the arrest of any suspects is still on and appealed to anyone with any tips to contact their nearest police station.
The deceased and a fellow Chinese worker were having dinner in a room at the construction site when they heard gunshots. The two men allegedly moved closer to the door of the room to ascertain where the shots were coming from. The deceased was allegedly struck by a bullet in the abdomen. The police found seven cartridges of an AK 47 on the scene.
The deceased rushed to the Andara District Hospital, but died while waiting to be attended to by a doctor. The deceased has been identified as Donglin Li, aged 54. He was employed by China Jiangxi International Company.
The incident was labeled by the Kavango Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Olavi Auanga ‘a barbaric act’, because it gave a Namibia a bad image, and was feared that such incidents will scare away potential investors. It has not yet been established whether the perpetrators might have been in the process of robbing or killing people living at the site.
Construction on the Divundu Vision School started in 2006, and it is being built through funding provided by the Education and Training Sector Improvement Programme (ETSIP).
