OTJIWARONGO: Nine people died on the spot after a 65-seater bus and a truck collided head-on between Tsumeb and Oshivelo this morning.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Oshikoto Regional Commander, Commissioner Anne-Marie Nainda told Nampa in a telephonic interview today that the road accident happened about 85 kilometres from Tsumeb to the Oshivelo Gate between 24h00 and 01h00 today.
She said eight people from the bus died, as well as the truck driver, adding that 35 people were admitted to the Tsumeb State Hospital in critical condition, while two more passengers were flown to Windhoek, also in critical condition.
Nainda suspects that the truck, which was driving from Oshivelo, veered into the right lane in which the bus was driving from Tsumeb, resulting in the collision. The victims and the deceased’s next of kin have not yet been informed.
