DIVAYI: A security guard employed at the controversial Ngepi Camp situated some 220km east of Rundu was brutally killed after being stabbed several times with unknown sharp objects before his hands were tied up together with the legs.

After attacking the security guard, the perpetrators then proceeded to break into the camp’s offices, and stole money and other items worth N.dollars 7000.

This is the second person in a space of about one month to be killed in the Mukwe Constituency.

Last month on 23 June, a Chinese man, who worked on the construction of the multi-million-dollar Divundu Vision School some 200 kilometres east of Rundu, was shot dead at the construction site.

No arrest has yet been made in the murder of that Chinese national despite the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Kavango Region having offered a reward of N.dollars 20 000 for information that could lead to the arrest of a suspect/s in the murder.

The latest incident of the security guard took place last night at around 00h00.

The deceased allegedly went to the gate of the camp with the intention to close but never returned since.

After realizing that the security guard was not returning, a curious fellow security guard who refused to be named but was also guarding the camp then followed to go find out what had happened only to discover his friend laying upside down in a pool of blood with both his hand tied to his legs.

NamPol’s Kavango regional acting Crime Investigations Co-ordinator chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo told reporter at the scene on Monday that the security guard seemed to have been tied up in a guard room and was dumped some 50meters away from the scene.

Chief Inspector Mubebo said the perpetrators the proceeded to the camp’s office where they stole a cash box which had money amounting to N.dollars 7 000.

The police have not made any arrests yet, but the acting Crime Co-ordinator have appealed to anyone with information that would lead to the arrests of the suspects to come forth.

The deceased who was employed by the Northeastern Security Company is known but his name cannot be released as his next of kin are yet to be informed.

In mail addressed to this reporter on Monday, the owner of Ngepi Camp Mark Adcock said his family and his staffs, have been persecuted for the last 3 years by local gang members, where they endured theft and harassment on a daily basis.

“Unfortunately someone has now been killed to highlight the terrible situation we have been living under,” Adcock said.

The Ngepi Camp owner is however optimistic that the authorities are now taking the situation very seriously and that all the other criminals who have targeted the camp over the years will be caught and prosecuted.

Early last year, the Hambukushu Traditional Authority leader Fumu Ervin Munika Mbambo ordered the closure of Ngepi Camp after terminating his leasehold agreement with the tourist camp owner Mark Adcock for alleged bad attitude and behaviors towards local people.

That eviction order is currently ongoing in the High Court.

After attacking the security guard, the perpetrator/s proceeded to break into the camp office, and stole money and other items worth N.dollars 7 000.

The incident took place on Sunday evening at around 24h00.

The deceased allegedly went to the gate of the camp with the intention to close it but never returned to his base at the camp.

After realising that his colleague was not returning, another security guard, who refused to be named, then went to look for him, only to discover his workmate lying upside down in a pool of blood.

NamPol’s Kavango regional acting Crime Investigations’ Coordinator, Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa at the scene on Monday that the security guard seemed to have been tied up in a guard room but dumped some 50meters away from the scene.

The police have not made any arrests yet, and the acting crime coordinator has appealed to anyone with information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward.

Meanwhile, the camp has been a target of theft on several occasions over the past three years.

Owner of the Ngepi Camp, Mark Adcock, told Nampa on Monday via e-mail that his family and staffs have to endure harassment on a daily basis by local gang members.

“Unfortunately someone has now been killed to highlight the terrible situation we have been living under,” Adcock said.

He is, however, optimistic that the authorities will now take the situation seriously, and that all other criminals who have targeted the camp over the years will be caught and prosecuted.

In the meantime, early last year, the Hambukushu Traditional Authority leader Fumu Ervin Munika Mbambo ordered the closure of the Ngepi Camp after terminating his leasehold agreement with Adcock for alleged bad attitude and behaviour towards local people.

That eviction order is still awaiting a High Court decision.
