WINDHOEK: Newly-appointed Minister of Education, David Namwandi says surprise visits to schools will continue this year.
President Hifikepunye Pohamba announced today that Namwandi is being appointed to the post of Minister of Education, replacing former Education Minister Abraham Iyambo, who passed away earlier this month.
Namwandi will be deputised by Silvia Gonaone-Makgone.
Iyambo was renowned for paying surprise visits to schools, an action that some community members hailed, while others were not as pleased with that initiative.
Namwandi made the announcement at Standard Bank Namibia’s Academic Excellence Prize-giving ceremony for Grades 10 and 12 learners here today.
The newly-appointed minister said surprise visits to schools will continue until the ministry has achieved its desired goals.
