NEW MINIMUM WAGES FOR SOUTH AFRICAN FARM, FORESTRY WORKERS ANNOUNCED

PRETORIA, The Department of Labour has announced new minimum wages for employees in the South African farm and forestry sectors, which will see their pay rising by by 5.6 per cent.

The new minimum wages will come into effect from March 1, 2018. The minimum wage will increase to 3.169.19 Rand (one US dollar = about 12.03 Rand) per month, up from the 3,001.13 in 2017/18.

The weekly minimum wage will be 731.41 Rand and the daily minimum wage for these employees will be 146.28 Rand and the hourly minimum wage will be 16.25 Rand, an increase from 15.39 Rand in 2017/18, the department announced here Wednesday.
