WINDHOEK: National Council sittings will resume on Monday.
According to a media statement issued by the National Council Secretary Panduleni Shimutwikeni, this session will consider and review the National Planning Commission (NPC) Bill as referred to them by the National Assembly.
Presidential Affairs’ Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) Albert Kawana tabled the NPC Bill, which seeks to redefine the role of the Commission by a new Act of Parliament, on 21 June this year.
The MP said at the time that it had become critical to effectively monitor and evaluate the country’s five-year National Development Plans (NDPs) if it is to realise its dream of achieving Vision 2030.
Kawana noted that despite the achievements and milestones that the Commission had reached thus far, more needs to be done to ensure that it remains on track towards Vision 2030.
Changes that have been introduced in the Bill include turning the Central Bureau of Statistics into an autonomous body outside the civil service.
