RUNDU: The 9th Congress of the Namibia Public Workers’ Union (Napwu) ended here on Thursday evening, with most leaders retaining their positions as was widely anticipated.
The congress endorsed all candidates for the union’s top positions, as nominated at the regional conferences held prior to the congress.
Sarafina Kandere is now Napwu president, taking over from Eliphas Dingara, who is currently serving as a Member of Parliament (MP).
Evans Mashwahu, who previously served as a member of the Central Executive Committee, was elected as the first president, while Ernst Pienaar was elected as second president.
Hilde !Norases emerged as the national treasurer.
Petrus Nevonga and Gabes Andumba also retained their positions as General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary, respectively.
The congress was attended by about 300 delegates from the country’s 13 regions.
