KEETMANSHOOP: Twelve community-based organisations from the southern regions of Hardap and Karas have received laptops from the Namibia Non-Governmental Organisations’ Forum (NANGOF) this week.

The donation, which saw the organisations receiving a laptop each, is worth around N.dollars 84 000.

Six of the laptops were handed over at Mariental in the Hardap Region on Tuesday, where the beneficiaries included the Daweb Saamstaan Women’s League and Needlework from Maltahöhe; the Nu /Hao Women’s Forum from Stampriet; the Church Alliance for Orphans Committee from Aranos; and the Ebenezer Kindergarten at Mariental.

Vrolike Vonkies from Gibeon and the Witkrans Women’s Needlework Project from Witkrans also received laptops.

NANGOF Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ivin Lombardt continued with the handing-over of laptops for organisations in the Karas Region on Thursday.

At an event held at Karas Regional Governor Bernardus Swartbooi’s office in Keetmanshoop, he handed over laptops to Keetmanshoop’s Hui Da Re Group and the Karas Huisen Craft team.

Men with a Vision from Bethanie; the Orphan Care Unit from Tses; the Helping Hands Group from Koes and the LineekelaOmwene Support Group of Luderitz, also benefited from the donations.

Lombardt explained that the donations are aimed at helping these organizations with the drafting of professional project proposals when they solicit funding.

The laptops would also enable community organisations to compile reports, and perform other official duties which require the use of such technology.

“These laptops should be used for the benefit of the organisations only, so do not take them home and give them to children,” he warned.

Swartbooi, who witnessed the donations, thanked NANGOF for the support, saying that it is good that they support community initiatives because they are trying to improve the lives of people at grassroots’ level.

“This is a good initiative, as it generates a sense of hope amongst our people to continue doing what they do best for the benefit of the economy,” he stated.

NANGOF is an umbrella network of NGOs in Namibia, which through the combined resources’ base of its membership works towards the creation and sustenance of an enabling environment for such organisations with an emphasis on democracy, poverty eradication and human rights’ promotion.
