WINDHOEK: Namibia post Limited (Nampost) has steadily succeeded to get closer and closer to the customers since its inception in 1992, by increasing its post offices to 135.

in 1992, Nampost had only 92 post offices.

Nampost turned 20 years on Thursday, after it was established on 31 July 1992.

The company Speaking at the 20th anniversary of Nampost, Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology Stanley Simataa said Nampost remains a major employer in the country with 743 employees.

He said Nampost was recognised as a star contributor to the progress the country has made in financial inclusion from 49 per cent to 69 per cent inclusion.

“This was not only as a result of utilising its postal infrastructure to bring the services closer to the communities, but also due to utilisation of top of the range technology to make banking and payment easier,” Simataa said.

“Indeed it has been two productive decades, I can only wish for Nampost to continue focusing on its mandate, recognise and embrace market changes as in as much as they present challenges they also provide opportunities,” he stated further.

He called on Nampost to continue playing its role with a renewed sense of focus, innovation, and sensitivity to customer and community needs.

“Innovatively, deliver on its mandate of providing postal service while gradually transforming and positioning the Post Office to remain a beneficial presence in all namibian communities,” he encouraged the management and employees.

He also called on them to balance social responsibility of providing universal service obligations as provided for under the United Nations Conventions with profitability.

Simataa also encouraged them to continue contributing to financial inclusion of Namibians by expanding financial offering and making services more accessible to low income people and to those that are currently not served.
