OTJIWARONGO: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region will continue to set up roadblocks on national roads in order to curb road accidents.
The police road blocks in Otjozondjupa were put up without prior notification to national road users on Thursday evening until yesterday morning. Otjozondjupa Police Regional Crime Investigations’ Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb told Nampa yesterday that his Force did not record a single road fatality over this past weekend due to many roadblocks that were set up.
Khairabeb noted that it is ‘very surprising” that the more they deliberately put up roadblocks on national roads, the less accidents of a serious nature are recorded. The deputy commissioner said since the roadblocks have proven themselves to be effective measures that can curb road accidents here, the police in the region will continue to set them up unexpectedly. This safety precaution will be supported by hand-held speed-detection cameras anywhere between the roadblocks.
