WINDHOEK: Members of the Namibian Parliamentary Standing Committees (PSCs) on Economic, Natural Resources and Public Administration as well as Public Accounts on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with members of the Chinese Parliamentary Standing Committees on Economics and Finance of the National People’s Congress (NPC).
A Chinese delegation of seven members, including Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Xin Shunkang, was led by Shi Xiushi, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and chairperson of the NPC Financial and Economic Affairs’ Committee.
According to a media statement issued to Nampa before the meeting, its main purpose was to discuss the role and responsibilities of Parliament and Standing Committees in promoting trade between China and Namibia, focusing on the two countries’ policy and legislation on tourism.
It also focused on budget examination and supervision of Parliament, and the global financial crisis.
The group was set to pay a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister Marco Hausiku on Thursday, and is expected to visit Walvis Bay and Swakopmund on Friday.
They arrived in the country on Wednesday, and will go home on Saturday.
