WINDHOEK: Namibian long-distance runner Beata Naigambo finished in second place at the inaugural Gauteng Marathon on Sunday.
Naigambo clocked a time of two hours, 43 minutes and 13 seconds (2:43:13).
Eunice Muchiri from Kenya won the race in 2:43:08, while Pamela Kipchoge, also from Kenya, came in third place in a time of 2:43:38.
Naigambo, 32, represented Namibia at the 2012 London Olympic Games women’s marathon in which she ended 38th overall in a time of 2:31:16.
Her personal best is 2:29:20
The men’s race was also won by a Kenyan, Timothy Kibet Chelimo.
The winners, in both the men’s and women’s races, pocketed N.dollars 250 000 each.
