WINDHOEK: More than 700 vulnerable children are benefiting from donations made by the President’s Charity Fund (PCF) to various organisations and institutions on Thursday.
The ceremony held at State House marked the first time that the fund, established last August, handed over donations to beneficiaries.
Facilitating at the handing-over ceremony on behalf of President Hifikepunye Pohamba was the Senior Assistant to the President, Christine //Hoebes, who told the gathering that the fund was established to create awareness on the plight of the most vulnerable members of society through the provision of bursaries, sponsorships and other forms of assistance.
//Hoebes noted that the initial identification of beneficiaries was done by the 13 regional governors, who were tasked with identifying two deserving welfare organisations or schools in their respective regions, while the final selection was done by members of the Trust.
She praised the schools and charity organisations for the important role they continue to play, especially in feeding, caring for and educating children.
