KEETMANSHOOP: Popular Keetmanshoop R&B and Hip-Hop group VMP will rock this town on Friday during the crowning of Miss VMP at the St Mathias Primary School Hall.
The group decided to host a beauty pageant to select the ‘face’ of VMP who will do the group’s marketing, organise gigs and so forth.
Speaking to Nampa on Thursday, group manager Earl Goliath aka ‘DJ Early’ said the event is meant to bring entertainment to the town, and also to promote the group more.
VMP comprises 10 artists, and they are currently busy in the studio recording their first 16-track album to be completed by the end of this year.
DJ Early said so far, two songs have been recorded, while the lyrics and melodies for the rest of the songs are ready and will be recorded soon.
Other local and Windhoek-based artists who will share the stage and rock the audience with VMP are GOL, JJ and Toppie.
The group manager promised that the show will be bigger and better, compared to the rest of the shows they hosted as the stage lighting, sound and choreography has improved.
Another VMP member, Clarence Josob aka “CT”, added that by hosting and choosing Miss VMP, the group aims to showcase the talents of young people in the South.
Furthermore, the southern singer notes that the group aims to transform the south from a quiet, boring place to an active place by delivering good music.
Most importantly, VMP wants to show their parents that the youth of Keetmanshoop are not just drinking and using drugs, but are working hard to achieve better things.
“Through our work, we want to change the mindsets of our parents and the whole society that we are not into bad things, but want to achieve bigger dreams,” said the singer.
Interested girls aged 16 and above can enter with their parents’ consent.
Entry forms are available at the Karas Community Radio Station, VMP studio and the Multi-Purpose Youth Centre.
The show will start at 18h00, and tickets are available on request for N.dollars 30 (VIPs) and N.dollars 10 (non-VIPs).
