WINDHOEK: The Ministry of Lands and Resettlement faces many challenges on the registration of land rights, and is working with various partners by focusing on the large numbers of unregistered land holdings in the country.
This was said by the Deputy Minister of Lands and Resettlement Theo Diergaardt during the ministry’s annual staff address here today.
A total of 80 185 land rights in 11 regions were verified and mapped by December last year, while 10 resettlement farms were inspected, surveyed and issued with 99-year lease agreements over the same period.
The registration of land rights in the communal areas is still ongoing, following the extension of the process to 2014.
The ministry will also prepare itself adequately to finalise and defend the 2013 provisional valuation roll in the Valuation Court.
