BERG AUKAS: The Minister of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture, Jerry Ekandjo on Thursday visited the Berg Aukas Centre to familiarise himself with the challenges the centre faces.
The youth centre falls under the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture, and is situated 18 kilometres south-east of Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region.
It offers one-year technical courses like fashion design, agronomy, horticulture, aquaculture, bee-keeping, welding, carpentry, and hospitality, with 397 new trainees enrolled in the courses this year.
Ekandjo was accompanied by National Youth Service (NYS) Board Chairperson Mandela Kapere; Swapo-Party Youth League (SPYL) Secretary Elijah Ngurare; SPYL secretary for information, publicity and mobilisation Job Amupanda and officials from the ministry.
Addressing a hall packed with trainees from all 13 regions, Ekandjo said the ministry is busy strengthening the institution so that it can produce graduates who will become self-sufficient, self-employers and who will be able to employee others once they graduate.
