ONIIPA: The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Richard Kamwi has called on people here to refrain from touching animals that have died of unknown causes.
Kamwi made the call on Friday during his visit to the Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital in the Oshikoto Region’s Oniipa Constituency, where an outbreak of Anthrax was reported last month.
While there is no Anthrax vaccine for people, Kamwi said the disease can be prevented by avoiding contact with infected animals or their carcasses.
He reminded members of the public of the danger of Anthrax and Measles – both of which have been experienced in the country this year, primarily in the Oshikoto Region.
He said both diseases are deadly, but fortunately they are also both preventable and curable, adding that measles is preventable through immunisation.
