Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula will on Monday announce the nominees for the 2016 South African Sport Awards.
The annual awards which honour sporting royalty will take place on 27 November 2016 at the Sand Du Plessis Theatre in Mangaung, in the Free State.
Minister Mbalula is due to announce the nominees in the annual awards at the SABC M1 studios in Auckland Park.
The department said this year’s awards will be challenging for nominees in light of the recent 2016 Rio Olympics and Paralympics that were held in Brazil.
The awards boast 18 categories, including Sportsman of the Year, Sportsman of the Year with a disability, Sportswoman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year with a disability and Team of the Year, among others.
The public will also get a slice of the action by voting in the People’s Choice of the Year award.
The public can vote for their favourite sport star by SMS. The nominees for the 2016 People’s Choice Award are Caster Semenya, Chad le Clos, Kagiso Rabada, Seabelo Senatla and Wayde van Niekerk.
