The Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries delivers keynote address at the Annual Waste Management Officers’ Khoro
The Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Barbara Creecy will deliver a virtual keynote address at the forthcoming annual Waste Management Officers’ Khoro, set to take place on Thursday, 17 September 2020.
The Waste Management Officers (WMO) Khoro, preceded by Cabinet approval of the National Waste Management Strategy 2020, is an annual conference of all government institutions dealing with waste management. The National Waste Management Strategy 2020 is aimed at promoting the waste hierarchy and circular economy principles, while achieving both socio-economic benefits and the reduction of negative environmental impacts.
The Conference is aimed at providing a platform for WMOs in the three spheres of government to share information and exchange thoughts in a mutually beneficial manner. It also further aims to strengthen capacity and streamline the institutional framework across government entities to enhance effective waste management.
This year’s conference will be convened under the theme: “The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) for South Africa’s circular waste economy”.
The Waste Management Officers Khoro forms part of the SA Recycling Week activities aimed at raising awareness to consumers and businesses on environment and climate impact of waste, promoting clean and sustainable waste management practices that minimize environmental impacts by adopting and transitioning to new innovative means that assist in reduction, reuse, repurpose, recycle or upcycle of waste material
