WINDHOEK: A male member of community policing unit ‘Men’s and Women’s Network’ was shot and injured by one of the four armed robberies at Okuryagava area in Katutura on Saturday.
A man died in Katutura State Hospital after one of the suspect fired-arm toward him, when suspects trying to rob a security guard at the entrance of one of the shops opposite Furniture mart near Stop and Shop market , NamPol spokesperson Inspector Kauna Shikwambi during a media briefing here on Sunday.
Shikwambi said when the suspects failed to rob the security guard of the money paid when people entering the promises, they fired in the air and one of the bullet injured the member of the community policing unit.
They have not managed to take anything, and three of the suspects are arrested while one is still at large.
Police investigation continues.
In the separate incident, a man was held on the gunpoint at Ara-a bar in Windhoek West on Friday, and robbed of a Toyota Corolla vehicle by four unknown man.
It is alleged that these four male suspects were offered a lift to the bar and robbed off the vehicle.
The vehicle was later recovered abandoned in Katutura area on the same day. No arrest was made and police investigation continues.
In Omaheke region, a vehicle belonging to Old Mutual Namibia was found abandoned in the area of Gobabis on Friday after it was reported stolen from Windhoek office some days ago.
On the Nampol patrol, a 26 year-old man Richard Gariseb was found hanged himself few kilometer from the vehicle, with the vehicle keys in his pocket.
It is alleged that Gariseb who is an employee of Old Mutual stole the vehicle and killed him.
No suicide note left and Police investigation continues.
WINDHOEK: A member of the Women and Men Network community policing unit died after being shot by an armed robber at a shopping centre in Katutura’s Okuryangava residential area on Saturday.
Inspector Kauna Shikwambi of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) said during a media briefing here on Sunday four suspects had been attempting to rob a security guard when the incident occurred.
The security guard was in possession of money paid by customers to enter the shopping centre. When the suspects failed in their attempts to rob the security guard, they fired shots into the air, injuring the man who had been on a routine patrol of the shopping centre.
The suspects did not manage to get away with anything, and three of them have since been arrested, while the fourth is still at large.
Shikwambi did not specify where on his body the man was injured, but indicated that he died in the Katutura State Hospital.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
In a separate incident, a man was robbed of his Toyota Corolla at gunpoint at a bar in Windhoek West on Friday.
It is alleged that four unknown men had asked the driver of the vehicle for a lift to the bar, and they then robbed him of his vehicle.
The vehicle was recovered in Katutura on the same day. No arrests have been made yet and the police investigation continues.
In the Omaheke Region, a vehicle belonging to Old Mutual Namibia was found abandoned in the area of Gobabis on Friday, after it was reported stolen from a Windhoek office a few days before.
The police indicated that Richard Gariseb, 26-year-old Old Mutual employee, had hanged himself near the vehicle with the car keys in his pocket.
It is alleged that Gariseb stole the vehicle.
He did not leave any suicide notes behind and the police investigation into the matter continues.
