Tomorrow morning, Western Cape Transport and Public Works MEC Robin Carlisle and City of Cape Town Traffic Services officials, will be conducting a Scholar Transport Operation at Holy Cross Primary School in Zonnebloem, Cape Town.
This operation forms part of ongoing operations targeting schools in the metro area, where scholars are being transported in conditions contrary to the National Land Transportation Act, which requires vehicles to be roadworthy and appropriate for the transportation of scholars, as well as for operators to be in possession of the necessary documentation/authority in order to carry out this function.
In previous operations, some vehicles have been found to be unroadworthy and overloaded, with others being operated by unlicensed drivers. All of these threatening the safety of the many young scholars that rely on these private vehicles, to travel to and from school on a daily basis.
