WINDHOEK: NorgesGruppen, one of Norway’s biggest retailers and a client of Meatco, is planning to host its next sales’ meeting here in 2013.
Head Buyer of NorgesGruppen, Frederico Fick made the announcement during Meatco’s awards’ ceremony here on Friday evening.
“NorgesGruppen intends to host its next sales’ meeting in Namibia in 2013 so that the sales team can sell the Namibian story and Meatco’s products from first-hand experience.
It is a significant investment, but we believe in Meatco’s brand, Nature’s Reserve, so much that we think it is worth it,” he noted.
Meatco introduced this brand in 2008, and registered it as its trademark.
The brand is a consumer-orientated approach in producing and marketing Meatco’s products, which moves away from the wholesale method further down the value chain towards the retail end.
To be considered as a supplier for NorgesGruppen, a company needs to take quality, ethics and the environment very seriously, Fick said.
He thus commended Meatco for the brand, which he described as “bringing all these aspects together with a quality product into one brand”.
NorgesGruppen is the sixth-largest company in Norway, and holds 37.4 per cent of the grocery market; 45 per cent of the food service market; and 70 per cent of the ship chandler market in Norway.
Speaking at the same occasion, Meatco chairperson Clara Bohitile said the corporation is an important supplier to NorgesGruppen, and through its exceptional offerings, is able to service other global clients.
“To be able to serve these markets, Meatco needs to consider the requirements: unwavering ethics, the finest quality, consistency of products, reliability of supply and the flexibility to deliver whatever our customers require. This is what we have achieved with the Namibian Brand – Nature’s Reserve,” she beamed.
Bohitile said it is extraordinary that a small country like Namibia can become a world-class player in the global red meat industry.
Meatco is the only African country to have branded premium beef products on the shelves of international retailers.
Meatco’s biggest clients currently are South Africa, the United Kingdom and Norway, although the corporation has penetrated various other markets like Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Czechoslovakia, China and Dubai.
