SWAKOPMUND: Swakopmund Mayor Rosina //Hoabes on Monday officially opened a newly constructed traffic circle on the B2 road leading into the tourist town.
The traffic circle, located at the entrance of the town on the B2 road from Arandis, was constructed as part of the municipality’s road infrastructure development to improve safety for its road users.
Hoabes indicated during the opening ceremony that the traffic circle is opening the door to a safer Swakopmund and said street lights were also erected at the traffic circle so that motorists can enjoy improved vision when entering the town.
The traffic circle was constructed over a period of six weeks.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Swakopmund Municipality, Eckart Demasius informed Nampa that the traffic circle will serve as a speed calming device. Gideons International yesterday handed over about 1 000 Bibles worth N.dollars 10 000 to the Ministry of Defence.
The Bibles, which will be distributed amongst members of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), were handed over to the ministry by Gideons International president Norma Kotze.
Gideons International is an Evangelical Christian organisation dedicated to distributing free copies of the Bible in over 94 languages and 194 countries, most famously in hotel and motel rooms.
Receiving the Bibles on behalf the Ministry of Defence, the NDF’s Chief Chaplain Lieutenant-General Reverend Canon Nangula Kathindi thanked the Gideons for their generous gesture.
She assured Gideons International that the Bibles will be fully utilised for the purpose of strengthening the members’ faith for the salvation.
