DIKUNGA: A 27-year-old man is set to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday in connection with the alleged rape of his eight-year-old biological sister.
The young girl was raped at Dikunga village, which is situated 200 kilometres (km) east of Rundu in the Mukwe area, on Sunday.
The suspect reportedly chased their sister out of the homestead, and when she left, he took his eight-year-old victim into a traditional hut where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Kavango Regional Crime Investigations’ Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton said on Tuesday that the incident was reported to the police by the victim’s mother on the same day.
The suspect was charged today and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
In an unrelated incident, a 57-year-old man facing charges of attempted murder was granted bail of N.dollars 3 000 by acting Magistrate Christine Van Wyk on Tuesday.
The accused person, Joseph Shakapa was apparently assaulted by the victim, who is said to have hit him in the face with a bottle at a bar in the Kehemu informal settlement on the outskirts of Rundu on Friday.
Shakapa reportedly retaliated by shooting the 21-year-old Wilson Abel three times in his left leg with a pistol.
Abel has since been admitted to the Rundu State Hospital and is in a stable condition.
The acting Magistrate postponed the case to 18 December this year for further police investigations and to enable to accused person to apply for legal aid.
