One Sheriff Ceesay was last Thursday, 12th November 2015 convicted and sentenced by presiding Magistrate Sharon Ofori-Atta Ajakaiye of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court after he was found guilty of offence of shop breaking, contrary to the laws of The Gambia.
The prosecution stated that the convict stole a mobile phone valued at D1,000, CFA 720,000 and D 55,000 from the shop of one Sulayman Tunkara on the 9th July 2015 at Banjulinding in the West Coast Region.
The convict pleaded guilty and the prosecution called 3 witnesses, whilst the convict testified as DW1 and called one witness.
In his plea of mitigation, the convict said he is a family man and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
Presiding Magistrate Sharon O.A.Ajakaiye sentenced the convict to pay the sum of D2, 000 in default to serve 2 months imprisonment and to further pay the sum of D50,000 as compensation to the victim, who the court disclosed has still not recovered the stolen items except the mobile phone in default to serve one year imprisonment.
