KEETMANSHOOP: A 26-year-old man accused of raping a four-year-old child decided to conduct his own defence in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Elton Jossop is accused of having raped a four-year-old girl at her mother’s house in Keetmanshoop on 30 September this year.
Court records indicate that the mother left the baby in the living room, and briefly went into the kitchen. After a while, she heard the baby crying, and was shocked to return and catch the suspect with his pants down.
Appearing before Magistrate Philanda Blockstein Christiaan, Jossop pleaded not quilty when asked to plead on the charge.
“I plead not guilty because I did not do it,” he told the court.
Asked whether he will present any witnesses to court, the accused person said he has no witnesses.
The matter was then postponed to 05 November for further police investigations, and the suspect was remanded in custody.
Principal Legal Officer at the Keetmanshoop Court, Pieter Smit, represented the State today.
