Kitui Governor Advocates for Investment Opportunities at Local Conference

KITUI COUNTY - Dr. Julius Malombe, Governor of Kitui, has reiterated his administration's dedication to fostering a favorable business climate to attract local and foreign investors to the region.

According to Kenya New Agency, Governor Malombe emphasized the untapped economic opportunities across various sectors within the county. The event, attended by numerous investors, served as a platform for discussing Kitui's industrialization agenda and showcasing potential investment and business ventures.

The governor highlighted ongoing efforts to make Kitui an attractive investment destination, including the development of framework guidelines for business operations and investment. He pointed to his election manifesto, 'The Kitui Promise', and the Kitui Vision for Economic and Social Transformation (KIVEST 2025) blueprint as foundational documents guiding the county's economic development. These plans delineate Kitui into six Economic and Investment Zones, designed to streamline development and attract specific industries.

Furthermore, Dr. Malombe outlined the establishment of County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs) as central to his industrialization strategy, which aligns with Kenya's Vision 2030. The Kitui County Aggregation and Industrial Park (K-CAIP) at Kanyonyoo was mentioned as a key initiative providing essential infrastructure to support investor activities.

The governor also stressed the role of government in facilitating rather than directly investing in business, noting past inefficiencies in public investment. Instead, his administration aims to focus on creating public goods such as roads, water supply, and electricity to support private investment and enterprise.

In conclusion, Governor Malombe called on the local and investor communities to collaborate with the county government to revive Kitui’s economic momentum, highlighting the need to tackle broader challenges such as the high national debt burden, rising cost of living, and youth unemployment.
