SOUTH AFRICA: The alleged kingpin behind a plot to overthrow Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila has appeared in Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, Business Day reported today.
Etienne Kabila Taratibu appeared in court today and would remain in custody.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Medupe Simasiku said the charges that would be brought against Kabila Taratibu were outlined during yesterday’s proceedings.
He would appear in the court again on Thursday, along with 19 other Congolese co-accused. They were expected to apply for bail.
Simasiku said the prosecution would oppose bail.
Last Thursday, at the group’s first appearance, prosecutor Shaun Abrahams said the police who arrested them recovered a ‘wish list’ for military training and equipment.
