KING CONGRATULATES MOROCCO’S FOOTBALLERS FOR WINNING 5TH AFRICAN NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIPS

RABAT– King Mohammed VI has congratulated members of the Kingdom’s national football team for winning he 2018 African Nations Championship with an emphatic 4-0 victory over African footballing giants Nigeria in the final played in Casablanca on Sunday.

In his message, the King said he watched “with joy and pride” the well-deserved achievement of the Moroccan team who won the 5th edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN2018), a tournament for home-based players.

In the match played at Casablanca’s Mohammed V Sports Complex, the first goal was scored by Zakaria Hadraf seconds before the referee blew the whistle for the end of the first half. The second goal came in the 61st minute from Walid El Karti at the 61st minute while the third and fourth goals were scored by Hadraf and Ayoub El Kaabi respectively.

This is the first title the Atlas Lions had competed in the finals of this competition, whose last edition was was won by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in 2016.

The King also extended congratulations to the coaching, technical and medical staff, officials and executives of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) for the victory. He also welcomed the good organization of the event, which has contributed to offering a good footballing show to the spectators who have enriched it with their enthusiastic encouragement.
