NNA – Member of the Development and Liberation Parliamentary bloc, MP Anwar Khalil, on Monday represented Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, in a wide-range meeting in Hasbaya with UNIFIL Head of Mission in Lebanon and its Commander, Maj. Gen. Michael Beary.
“I am happy to be here today in Hasbaya; these meetings are important as they allow us to get to know each other better and thus strengthen our common understandings,” Beary said.
“I assure you that the commander of the Eastern Sector, and the brigade he leads, will serve you day and night in order to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701,” Beary added.
He noted that the UN Security Council had unanimously renewed the mandate of UNIFIL until August 31, 2018.
“Under resolutions 2373 and 1701, UNIFIL will continue to work with all the Lebanese parties to maintain a cessation of hostilities and stability along the blue line,” he added, affirming that the aim of UNIFIL would remain, as it has always been, to maintain the unprecedented stability that has lasted for eleven years in South Lebanon.
“UNIFIL is not working alone, but in close coordination with its strategic partner, the Lebanese Army. We look forward to increasing joint operations with the Lebanese army after the deployment of the fifth intervention regiment to help it extend the state’s authority in the south,” Beary added.
