RUNDU: Teachers from several schools in the Kavango Region who were furious with their regional education office over the non-payment of salaries for work done during this year’s August school holidays, have finally been paid.
The more than 92 teachers from nine secondary and combined schools in the region claimed that teachers in other regions such as Ohangwena and Oshana were apparently paid immediately after completing the five-day teaching session.
Kavango Regional Education Director Alfons Dikuua told Nampa on enquiry Thursday that all teachers were paid since Wednesday this week.
Deputy director of education in the region, Fanuel Kapapero, earlier said teachers were paid according to hours worked, calculated at N.dollars 200 per hour.
Several affected teachers on Thursday confirmed having received their payments.
The holiday classes catered for Grade 10 and 12 learners from 27 to 31 August this year at eight selected schools in the region.
