WINDHOEK: Namibian boxer Mejandjae Kasuto is set to continue his good start to the Olympic games currently underway in London when he takes his place in the round of 16 on Thursday, taking Hungarian Z Harca. The round of 16 fights will take place from 14: 30 and 21: 30 in the evening.
Kasuto defeated Tajikstan`s Sobirdhon Nazarov (11-8) to book his place in the round of 16. The 26 year old Windhoek born boxer who was in Cuba, where both the Namibian boxers went through some rigorous training before joining the rest of team Namibia in London will be hoping to up his game this year after his was sent out the Beijing games in 2008 by Andrey Balanov of Russia by eight points to five.
Meanwhile the Namibian flag bearer during the opening ceremony at the London, games 31 years old Gaby Diana Ahrens will be competing for the first time at these year’s games on Saturday taking her place in the Women`s trap(shot gun shooting at clay) starting at 09:30.
The Windhoek born Arhrens who shares the shooting passion with Her brother Sven Arhens who is also an elite shooter will be hoping to complete all the rounds to book her place in the medal round.
The Namibian athletes at this year`s Olympic games are still to get their first medal as one of the boxers Jonas was defeated by Italian Jahyn Vittorio Parrinello in the Bantamweight division (18-7) on Saturday. Another Namibian, Road race cyclist Dan Craven crashed out of the race after an incident in front of him, tried to avoid contact which he did but ended up being caught in melee and was pulled down.
