OTJIWARONGO: Karas Regional Governor Bernardus Swartbooi and girlfriend Moedie Jacobs got engaged here on Saturday.
Approximately 700 people from Otjiwarongo, Windhoek, Keetmanshop and elsewhere flocked to Somaeb Street in the Orwetoveni residential area, where Jacobs’s mother, Magdalena Sabatha, lives.
Guests were treated to food and drink, and music, especially the “Nama Stap”.
Swartbooi, 35, was accompanied by his mother Katrina and father Frederick Swartbooi, and was smiling for the entire engagement ceremony, seated next to his girlfriend of eight years.
He was born in the Tses village in the Karas Region.
Jacobs, 32, was born in Otjiwarongo, and works in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) in Windhoek.
According to Sabatha, the couple will tie the knot on 15 December 2012 in Otjiwarongo.
Swartbooi and Jacobs met at work in Windhoek, and have a five-year-old daughter togther, said Sabatha.
