KEETMANSHOOP: An extra-ordinary Annual General Meeting (AGM) on football issues in the Karas Region will take place at Karasburg next month.

Chairman of the Karas Football Region, Harry Jahs told Nampa on Wednesday that a specific date for the meeting is still to be decided on.

The meeting will, amongst others, discuss issues such as team promotions, relegation, finances as well as administrative matters.

The final decision on the promotion of Young Eagles Football Club (FC) to the Karas Second Division for the 2012/13 football season will also be taken at that meeting.

Young Eagles won the third division play-offs at Keetmanshoop last month.

“Fedics United will be occupying the number one spot in the second division. Young YB and Lacosta FC were relegated from the second division, and they can now either decide to play in the third division or not,” said Jahs.

He explained that it is up to the teams’ managements to decide whether they will destroy the teams to not exist anymore or opt for the third division.

All these decisions will be made according to the rules and regulations of the Namibia Football Association (NFA).

The regional football chairman then thanked everyone who has been supporting football in Karas, and appealed to local business people to continue supporting the sport in the form of money and equipment.

“I humbly appeal to local companies to support us financially for the new season, because we struggle to pay for stadiums, refresher courses for referees and other administration costs,” he appealed.

Jahs further stated that parents should support football because it is a way to keep young boys off the streets and give them a better future.
