KALKFELD: The construction of the first-ever business park for Kalkfeld settlement in the Otjozondjupa Region is progressing well.
The complex was commissioned by the Namibia Development Corporation (NDC) on 01 August 2012 at Kalkfeld in Otjozondjupa Region, and is being constructed by the Goro Investment Company.
Construction site manager, Immanuel Nambwa told Nampa in an interview on Tuesday that the first phase of the construction has already been completed.
“We have completed the foundations of all five key buildings within this business complex, like the post office, petrol station, community market, public toilets and shop outlets,” he said.
Goro Investment is employing 27 workers for the construction of the Kalkfeld business park.
The project’s concept design and construction site were handed over to Goro Investment on 01 August this year, also at Kalkfeld.
The complex is expected to be completed within 18 months at a cost over N.dollars 14 million coming from the government’s national development budget.
The money was channeled through the Ministry of Trade and Industry to the NDC to execute the entire construction of the business complex.
NDC Industrial Development Manager, Koos van Staden said during the handing over function in August that the NDC will report back on the progress made on the complex to the Ministry of Trade and Industry as well as the National Planning Commission (NPC) every month.
Kalkfeld is situated 70 kilometres west of Otjiwarongo.
It was proclaimed a village in 1991, but downgraded to a settlement in 1996, apparently because of a lack of development and infrastructure growth.
In his official statement at the occasion that marked the handing over of the construction site, Otjiwarongo Regional Councillor Otto Iipinge said the Otjozondjupa Regional Council has a master plan to turn Kalkfeld into a modern town.
Iipinge said the business complex is one of the projects out of many already approved by the Otjozondjupa Regional Council to bring development here.
He said the Otjozondjupa Regional Council’s master town plan for Kalkfeld includes doing away with the bucket toilet system before December this year.
