Int. E-learning Africa Conference here next May

WINDHOEK: The local organising committee of the 8th International E-Learning Africa Conference slated for Windhoek next year, are attending the 18th International Online Educa Berlin (OEB) in Germany.

The International E-Learning Africa Conference to take place from 29 to 31 May 2013, is co-organised by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) and focuses on the use of technology in education.

In a media statement issued here Thursday, MICT Permanent Secretary (PS) Mbeuta Ua-Ndjarakana, who is leading the Namibian delegation in Germany, said Namibia as the host of next year’s conference was invited to attend the 18th International OEB, the sister conference to e-Learning Africa.

He said the OEB presents Namibia with the opportunity to promote itself as the next host, as well as gain expertise and advice to ensure that the conference will be a success. “The Namibian stand at the Online Educa Berlin conference was swamped by prospective attendees and exhibitors for next year’s Windhoek conference, with a jovial mood prevailing during the Namibia ‘happy hour’ when guests were treated to a complimentary Windhoek Lager beer,” said Ua-Ndjarakana.

According to the PS, the Namibian delegation gave a presentation in which it focused on introducing Namibia and highlighting the legislative and policy framework for ICT in the country. Various ICT in Education initiatives such as Tech/NA cover holistic components such as curriculum development, content, connectivity and infrastructure deployment, he stressed.

The presentation, according to Ua-Ndjarakana, outlined e-Learning practices in Namibia and promoted Namibia as a premier tourism destination. He, therefore, strongly called upon the Namibian corporate citizens to gear up for the conference and showcase the country’s success to the world. “It is the most opportune time for all Namibians to think positively, embrace hope and prosperity as we strive to expand the use of technology in education,” said the PS.
