ADDIS ABABA: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has officially endorsed the peace agreement reached in Ankara, Turkey, between Ethiopia and Somalia. The agreement, facilitated by Turkish mediation, aims to resolve longstanding misunderstandings between the two East African nations.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, IGAD’s Executive Secretary, Workneh Gebeyehu, praised the Ankara Agreement as a landmark accord, highlighting its significance in strengthening the relationship between Ethiopia and Somalia. IGAD’s statement emphasized that the agreement represents a commitment by both countries to address bilateral issues through peaceful means, thereby reinforcing their historical ties.
Workneh acknowledged the constructive engagement and cooperation demonstrated by the leaders of Ethiopia and Somalia during the negotiations. He stressed the importance of diplomatic efforts in overcoming shared challenges and promoting stability and prosperity throughout the Horn of Africa region.
