MARIENTAL: More firefighting teams are being deployed to join the other teams that started fighting the veld fire Monday at the /Huibes Conservancy, in the Gibeon Constituency of Hardap Region.
This morning the fire is estimated to have destroyed an area of about 120 kilometres.It is heading in the direction of Docheib South on the side of Maltahöhe.
Detective Inspector Samuel Gariseb of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Mariental told Nampa upon enquiry Tuesday that a team from the Ministry of Agriculture Water and Forestry will be sent today.He also said more police officers from Mariental will join their colleagues who were there since Monday containing the fire.
The members of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) and fire brigades at Gibeon and Maltahöhe village councils also started fighting the blaze on Monday but could not put it out.The /Huibes Conservancy was launched by Environment and Tourism Deputy Minister Uahekua Herunga in July his year, and is located 80 kilometres west of Mariental on the road to Walvis Bay via Maltahöhe. The conservancy covers 122 417 hectares of land, and has a variety of wild animals such as kudus, leopards, oryx, ostriches, steenbok and jackals.
