CAPE TOWN– South African Home Affairs (Interior) Minister Malusi Gigaba, who was previously finance minister, has confirmed that he will appear before Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises as it resumes its inquiry into corporate governance at State-owned power utility Eskom on Tuesday.
Also summoned to appear at the inquiry are former Board Chairperson of outh African Airways (SAA), Dudu Myeni, some members of the Gupta family which is alleged to have exercised undue influence over some senior officials of the State and government in an episode referred to as “Statew Capture”, and their associates.
The committee has, however, not heard from Myeni or the Gupta family’s lawyer if they will present themselves at the inquiry.
Last week, Myeni sent a message to the committee saying she was too ill to fly to Cape Town. Inquiry chairperson Zukiswa Rantho says if they do not hear from Myeni by Monday, she will be subpoenaed.
Dudu Myeni is one of the persons that has been mentioned in the dismissal of the executives of Eskom, the likes of Tshidiso Matona and the others. And yet she was the chairperson of SAA. That is what we wanted to hear from her. What was her role in Eskom, said committee chairperson Zukiswa Rantho.
