OTJIWARONGO: The Municipality of Heusden in The Netherlands on Friday donated second-hand medical equipment valued at over N.dollars 10 million to the Otjiwarongo Town Council.
The Heusden Municipality has been in a twinning social welfare agreement with the Otjiwarongo Municipality since 2003.
Otjiwarongo Municipality Executive Manager for Strategic, Community Services and Economic Development, Agatha Mweti said during the handing-over ceremony that her municipality will, in turn, donate the same medical equipment to the Otjiwarongo Private Medical Practice Centre.
The equipment include a sonar machine, baby incubator, medical examination beds, wheelchairs, bicycles, walking aids, medicine cabinet and clothes.
Otjiwarongo Municipality deputy mayor, Archillaus Namaseb received the equipment from the Heusden Municipality representative, and at the same time handed it over to the Otjiwarongo Private Medical Practice Centre.
Dr Maritz Laubscher from the Otjiwarongo Private Medical Practice thanked the two municipalities for the donation, saying his practice was in dire need of such equipment.
“The donation is truly appreciated. On behalf of my practice we are very thankful, and from now onwards we will work together with the Municipality of Otjiwarongo to uplift the medical social plight of our people,” said Laubscher.
