HELAO NAFIDI: Three-hundred food and beverage traders and 100 corporate companies and small and medium-sized (SME) have so far booked their spaces for the 2012 Helao Nafidi Business Expo.
The expo is set to take place at its usual venue, the Helao Nafidi Business Recreation Park, which is situated along the Ondangwa-Oshikango main road at the northern border town of Helao Nafidi in the Ohangwena Region.
Helao Nafidi Town Local Economic Development And Tourism Officer Rauna Shipunda told Nampa in an interview at the town on Wednesday that the expo will take place from 29 October until 04 November.
According to Shipunda, all the participating exhibitors are from within Namibia. “We extended an invitation to our neighbours (Angola), but we have not received any response from them as yet,” she said.
Sports activities and kids entertainment, which were introduced during last year’s expo, will once again form part of the business expo.
“We have a plan to change the current state of the expo by bringing in a tourism attraction element in the future,” Shipunda explained.
The leadership of the town last Saturday held a fundraising gala dinner which served as the launching of the event.
“It was a successful fundraising dinner whereby we generated N.dollars 170 000, compared to N.dollars 136 000 collected during the 2011 fundraising dinner,” she noted.
Environment and Tourism Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah officiated at the fundraising dinner, while Works and Transport Minister Erkki Nghimtina is expected to officially open the expo on 31 October.
The Helao Nafidi Business Expo will be hosted under the patronage of local business tycoon Ben Hauwanga of the BH Group of companies.
