OPUWO: The Director of Health for the Kunene Region, Thomas Shapumba is happy about the progress on the construction of the maternity ward at the Opuwo State Hospital.
The construction started in June 2012, and has already reached 65 per cent completion.
Shapumba was optimistic that by the end of May this year, the Yatile Construction Company would have completed the building, and hand it over to the Opuwo State Hospital’s administrators.
The new ward will accommodate 30 patients, and will also have a nursery where babies would be kept and breastfed by their mothers.
The site manager of the Yatile Construction Company, Kristian Hafeni, said they have a workforce of 73 people, of whom 21 are women, and would be handing over the keys of the ward to the Ministry of Health and Social Services on 13 May this year.
