SWAKOPMUND: The Omeva Yerongo Fishing company donated 10 computers valued at N.dollars 75 000 to the Hanganeni Primary School here.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony on Friday, principal of the school, Bertha Kadhila, said the computers will be of great assistance to her learners in these current socio-economic challenges.
The majority of Hanganeni learners are from the DRC informal settlement on the outskirts of the tourist town.
Kadhila explained that as part of her studies at a Johannesburg University from 2008 to 2010, she was requested to come up with a project that will advance education in key areas which her school lacks.
She focused on computer courses, as it has become a necessity in the modern world.
The principal noted that learners from homes with little or no socio-economic challenges are already exposed to computer usage at an early stage.
“I find it necessary that learners are exposed to computer skills, as it is one way of leveling the playing field and opportunities to further their education.
The teachers at Hanganeni believe that despite the fact that our learners come from struggling socio-economic backgrounds, they deserve the same playing field and opportunities to further their education,” she said.
